Raisio Library. tour in library Presentations & workshop Turku Art Museum: Moment in Time - method
Eliza, Ukrainian artist: Vytanka FORWARD in Turku workshop work and discussions
EVALUATION OF MEETING IN TURKU / FORWARD TOGETHER 1.-3.2.2023
3. Raisio library: tour in Library ( any questions in mind?)
A pleasant "human library" with lots of green plants. Impressive that a relatively small municipality (close to Turku) can have such a fine library and cultural center
The two libraries were completely different. Kaarina was clean and white, Raisio's robust factory milieu in a good way. I would prefer Kaarina as a workplace. Raisios would have liked to know if they also do substantive work for readers. They did talk about how they introduce readers (including children and foreigners) to what can be done in the library and how to use it but do they also give children literature lessons or organize meetings with writers, etc.
I really liked the design and functionality, it can be seen that it has served well for more than 20 years. Very responsive and welcoming employees.
LOVED the design and functionality of the Raisio library. Despite the fact that the library has been operating for more than 20 years, everything confirms the careful attitude of the architects, builders, maintainers, librarians and visitors towards the library. Caring and sincere employees willing to share their work experience. Thanks a lot!
Very cozy and reader friendly library. Lending art - never heard about this.
4. Raisio library: Finnish saami people
Nice exhibition about the Sami in Northern Finland
I liked the exhibition where you could look at Sami clothes and attributes, but I would have liked to know more about it - what stories are behind these clothes - who they belonged to, etc.
The Sami people. The first inhabitants. It was very elegant that the Raisio library has this small exhibition dedicated to the indigenous people of the Finnish territory.
It was a little but well done and gave a good overview of the saami peolpe.
It was amazing to mention about Saami people and Saami culture , but I would be happy to know more about the problems of Saami communities nowadays. I would like not only to hear that they are not only keepers of traditions and culture heritage but only to see how the combine the innovations of he contemporary society and the traditional life style.
5. Forward work in Turku - language learning courses
The lecture on teaching Finnish (in English) was more suitable for language schools than for libraries. But nice to meet committed people
I would have liked to take part in a real language course to see how it is conducted in real life. Otherwise, it was nice to see how Finnish was the common language of different peoples and how they used it.
Loved this introduction to practical work and its details. Inspiring story of Inna as a volunteer.
The experience of Finnish libraries shows that the library is a community center where people of different nationalities and cultures meet. The new reality puts new demands on library and NGO's workers. Estonia and Latvia so far not had much experience with war refugees or immigrants. However, Finland and Denmark have one. The topic of the social mission of libraries was touched upon in the talks: maintaining cohesion in society, the perspective of equality (including for immigrants), giving and creating good and sustainable life opportunities. Turku Women's Center shared an excellent experience with Finnish language lessons for immigrants. Next time we would like to know more about your experience in language teaching.
Good job what they do. May be more practical experience to learn some ukrainians words.
Language learning courses can be regarded as a base , as a platform for further cooperation, reworking, and organizing the events. That can be regarded as a hub for ideas, initiatives and inspiration.
Good ideas!
6. Co- operation with museums, A moment in Time - method Moment in Time The main focus of the Moment of Time is on the thoughts evoked by the artworks and the discussion based on them. In the moment of reflection, the TURKU ABC group focuses on Finnish works of art and the discussion is structured around the chosen theme. The special features of the moment are a calm pace and a participant orientation. A thought moment is a guide originally developed in cooperation between Turun Taidemuseo (Turku Art Museum) and Varsinais-Suomen Muistiyhdistys (Southwest Finland Memory Association). The guidance is also suitable for other groups hoping for a quiet moment of conversation, such as in the TURKU ABC group for adult language and Finnish culture teaching.
Trying to put into words the motto "The Defense of the Sampo" was an interesting experience that can easily be copied for Danish conditions
I liked the observation and description of the picture as a method. It took the thoughts to a completely different track and activated creativity. Next time maybe it would be better if everyone will receive a separate picture in their hands because the nuances could not be seen well from the screen and from a distance.
I really liked this lesson. It was touching the Finnish culture, traditions from a very personal perspective - through my own experience and feelings. A great method for working with different groups.
I really liked the remote pedagogical program of the Turku Art Museum at the February 2nd seminar in the Raisio library. It was very interesting and worth taking in the experience, during which we got to know one of the most famous Finnish painters, his work and the history of Finland through ancient myths.
It was very interesting who to learn language through art and also getting know local art.
In my opinion this aspect of the activity should be emphasized more - for me the concept of cooperation with museums was not very clarified at this event.
Nice way of thinking
7. Ukrainians culture: motanka, vytanka, paper craft
Very successful - and a good way to work varied in relation to being able to work creatively. Elisa Bird was great as an art teacher
It was a great playful time. Many said they couldn't do it, that they were bad at paperwork. I think it was time to improve their skills. And no one expected high art from there.
Wonderful hands-on lessons to relax your mind and get your hands working. It's great to alternate these types of techniques between theoretical discussions.
Ukrainian culture, its manifestations are ancient, persistent and unknown. Time to get acquainted! Ukrainians could show and tell to us how they feel in Finland and give an insight into their culture through practical lessons: motanka, vytanka, paper craft
It always nice to learn something about other culture.
Very touching and emotional moments - thanks for introduction these activities
Stress free and creative
8. How Ukrainians' voice were heard?
The Ukrainian voices were especially heard in conversations with Ukrainian refugees during the breaks
Inna's voice could be heard very loudly, but maybe she was not the best example in the context of the war. Nevertheless, it was interesting to observe the relationship between a highly choleric Ukrainian and a highly phlegmatic Finn.
Quite expressive. It was very good to have the opportunity to meet the Ukrainians themselves and hear their experiences directly from them.
The Ukrainian theme was heard throughout the seminar. First of all, there were representatives of the Ukrainian community, their presence was emphasized. During the seminar, the participants talked about how libraries and NGOs can help in this situation.
May be not too much.
Clearly. As a response of the Finnish society, the participants emphasized the focus of their activities on encouraging Ukrainians to integrate into new cultural environment.
I would have liked to hear even more how they went to Finland, why they ended up and what their plans are in the future
9. About what you want to hear more?
I would like to know more about Ukrainians' expectations, hopes and wishes for a good life in their new homeland
I would have liked Lisa and Misha to have told their story to everyone at once. It could be done individually - and so I didn't hear it. It would also have been nice if the other participants in the photo project had told everyone the story of their coming to Finland at the same time.
More examples with methods of how different aspects of culture are used for integration and education (TurkuArt Museum example are very inspiring)
I think that even in a crisis situation, some information is important for people - where have they ended up. What is this new home country, what kind of people live there, what are their traditions, language and customs. How can we show it to foreigners, immigrants, refugees. Example: The pedagogical program of the Turku Museum - as if through one painting, we got an impressive impression of Finns and Finland. And a short moment in the corner dedicated to the Sami people. Because it is also the message to the arrivals that they have not come to nowhere, but to a nation of respectable culture
How Ukrainians have settled in Finland? What are difficulties and joys in every day life.
About the further development of the event's concept: what is going to be done? what are the plans ? what are the communication tools of the project participants? what are the plans for visualizing/publicizing the project?
10. How the meeting activities have been organized
The meetings were arranged exactly by the book
Everything was very well organized. Well done!
Everything was very well organized, the program was very full and varied, but at the same time it was not crowded and tiring.
The meeting activities in Turku was performed thoughtful, inconspicuously and at a very good level. Because the goal of the whole project is to acquire and improve knowledge, skills and activities, how to work with war refugees, what to teach them and how to do it. I suspect that this work was will also be carried out in future seminars and workshops organized within the project. It pleases me.
Very well organized.
Amazing well. Thank you.
The organizational side was very good! Keep going! :)
